Upcoming Brazil Field Experience

This blog was created as part of my participation in the Teachers for Global Classrooms program. It is designed to serve as a medium for me to share my experiences in Brazil with my students in the United States.  We leave for Brazil in just less than four weeks, and though I am very excited, there is much left that needs to be done in preparation.

Research Questions:

I am predominantly interested in studying how the education system in Brazil deals with different issues such as poverty, resources etc.  In particular, I am interested in studying the effects o the 2014 World Cup, and the upcoming 2016 Olympics on Brazil’s education system.  I am interested in studying civil unrest, human rights violations, and education. Of course, this may change as a result of my experience.

Logistics:

Although we have not been given many specifics just yet, I do know we will be visiting the capital of Brasilia when we first arrive, and be visiting the coastal city of Salvador for the end of our trip.  In between, myself and another teacher will be paired with Josélia Santos, an English teacher at the Centro Cultural de Linguas Padre Raimundo Jose in Teresina, Piaui, Brazil.  We will spend the week co-teaching, visiting classrooms, and participating in other school-wide activities.
